They argue that the usual science base we draw on when either attempting or assessing innovation in health systems is blinkered and insufficient if we are really to understand what is appropriate and where in this complex environment. They offer the concept of Cynefin as a way of understanding, interpreting and enacting appropriate responses to innovation which are dependent on both its purposes and context.
